Biography:

Certified CMA teacher since 2009, Jose is a wonderful Academy member, and has been teaching since 2002.

A charismatic young teacher with extensive teaching experience, Jose is a 3rd generation musician by profession with deep roots in Latin music. Learning to play guitar at a young age, he quickly found himself trying to imitate the sounds of rock legends like Santana among so many others. Today, Jose is passionate about playing all genres of music, from rock & pop, to gospel and r&b and everything in between. Jose is fluent in using all classical, acoustic and electric guitars.

Since graduating with honors from the Applied Music Program at Mohawk College Jose has performed with several musical ensembles in outdoor festivals such as the Bread & Honey Festival, Mel Lastman Square’s Hispanic Fiesta and the Nathan Phillips Square Mexican Independence Day Celebration. He has also received outstanding review for his work at the Royal Heritage Theatre in plays such as “Man of La Mancha” among others. Jose has played in settings such as weddings, corporate parties and restaurants. Having been brought up in church, Jose has also directed and played in several Christian ensembles.

Jose truly believes in building a rapport with every student and customizing each lesson according to their personality, interests and musical goals. He is very innovative in using only the best in technology to make lessons educational and fun. Some of the computer software he uses includes Band in a Box, Cubase, Finale, Cakewalk, Powertabs, Guitar Pro, and MIDI files. Over the years, Jose has written and compiled a media library including virtually hundreds of songs in all styles along with their transcriptions, as well as his own personal collection of about 30 music books which are all used for the benefit of each student.
