Pei-Chen shares her passion for music with her students!
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Pei-Chen obtained her Masters Degree from the U of T in Piano Performance and Pedagogy under the tutelage of Dr. Midori Koga. Pei-Chen is currently a piano and ECM instructor at the U of T children's piano pedagogy program and Montcrest School as well. Pei-Chen is working towards earning the Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Music Education through Royal Conservatory of Music.
Aside from her role as a performing pianist, she is also a piano and Early Childhood in Music (ECM) instructor. Pei-Chen believes that playing piano is a multi-dimensional activity. Her teaching philosophy centers around developing independent thinking, learning discipline, discovering inner thoughts and emotions, and most importantly, enjoying playing the piano with a strong emphasize on body position, tone quality, and musical sense. As an ECM educator, her curriculum combines the concepts of Dalcroze, Orff and Kodály pedagogy. She hopes that her students will have the freedom to be unique, have passion, and enjoy their music lives.
The Toronto-based pianist Pei-Chen Chen made her debut at the age of fifteen with the Hsin-Tien Symphony Orchestra, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.5. She was invited to perform in Maestro Kerry Stratton's adult education series - "A Little Night Music"in 2013. Pei-Chen has won several piano competitions in Taiwan. She has also been awarded scholarships from the 2008 International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York and received scholarship from the University of Toronto (U of T).
Not only is Pei-Chen an enthusiastic soloist, she is equally passionate about chamber music as well. She was invited as a collaborative pianist to the 2011 Taipei FagottiCCmo Bassoon Summer Camp. She also accompanied the choir of Hua Hsing High School and the voice and trumpet masterclass at U of T. Pei-Chen is the founding member of the Duo Agilis with the flutist Izabella Budai.
