Matthew currently holds two degrees in music from York University in Toronto. A protégé of Lorne Lofsky, he received the Oscar Peterson bursary in 2004 and Oscar Peterson Scholarship in 2005. Matthew continues to be recognized for his playing and has the opportunity to perform at many festivals around Ontario including the Orangeville Jazz Festival, the Barrie New Music Festival as well as performed with notable musicians including Barry Elmes, Lenny Boyd, and Lorne Lofsky. Matthew can be heard in collaboration with other artists and bands and has his own
release with renowned and distinguished Canadian jazz musicians.
Currently Matthew is in the process of completing the Doctoral program in Jazz Studies at York University where he continues to study and teach. Matthew’s research in Sting’s music has led him to interview an array of musicians, which has helped to develop his own diverse performance and teaching style.
Matthew has been teaching for 15 years and has helped to develop his student’s musical abilities in a large range of styles including rock, jazz, folk and classical.
