A Certified CMA teacher since 2011, Sarah is a wonderful member of our faculty, and endeavors to provide a studio where the students are encouraged to express themselves freely, explore, and enjoy the process discovering and learning.
A teacher since 2002, Sarah is thrilled to share her love and knowledge of music. Her students range from beginner to professional (ages 6 and up), and they study varying styles including classical, musical theatre, jazz and contemporary.
Sarah encourages a positive and enthusiastic approach to learning and structures each lesson to meet the individual needs and goals of the student, creating a curriculum that fosters a healthy and relaxed sound, and provides a well-rounded music education that includes theory, sight singing, ear training, dramatic coaching, style, interpretation, and French, English, German, Italian, and Spanish diction. Whether your goals are to prepare for an RCM exam, audition for a production or university admission, prepare a role, or to explore your love of music, Sarah is happy to create a program to suit your needs.
Sarah completed her postgraduate studies at McGill University, where she was awarded a Schulich Scholarship and also taught a Musicianship Course. She received her Master of Music Literature and Performance, and her Honours Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Western Ontario. Sarah is also an active performer and her most recent roles include Florence Pike with the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme’s production of Albert Herring, and Mercedes in Pellegrini Opera’s production of Carmen. She is also an alumnus of the Opera Lyra Ottawa’s Opera Studio, where she performed the roles of Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Dorabella in the concert version of Cosi fan Tutte, Papagena in the concert version of Die Zauberflöte, and she premiered the role of the Dog in Dean Burry’s new opera The Bremen Town Musicians. Other recent roles and concerts include Don Ettore in La Canterina, Nancy in Albert Herring, and L'Enfant in L'Enfant et les Sortileges, Pergolesi's Magnificat, Opera Atelier’s Chorus for Clemenza di Tito, Mozart's C Minor Mass, the Banff Centre's Opera as Theatre program for Filumena, Handel's Messiah with the Guelph Chamber choir and Music Viva Orchestra, Beethoven's Symphony no. 9, op. 125 with Symphony Hamilton.
