Biography:

A certified CMA teacher, Kurt joined our team in 2009, and has been very popular with students for his dynamic teaching and unique skills and knowledge. He is an internationally renowned award winning multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, clinician, composer and arranger who is currently singing with the three-time JUNO Award nominated vocal band, Cadence, based in Toronto. He is the bass singer as well as the vocal percussionist/beatboxer for Cadence.

Kurt has performed several times with 10-time Grammy Award winning artist Bobby McFerrin, 10-time Grammy Award winning artists Take 6, and is featured on the latest album of 5-time Grammy & JUNO Award winning artist David Clayton Thomas of Blood, Sweat & Tears. Kurt has also worked with other renowned artists such as Gordon Lightfoot, Gene Simmons, Sarah Mclachlan, Fred Penner, André-Philippe Gagnon, New York Voice, The Swingle Singers, and many more.

He has received numerous awards for his works, including “Best Canadian Album”, “Best Jazz Album”, “Best Jazz Song”, and “Best Arrangement” from the international CARA Awards. His music and arrangements has been played on syndicated radio stations worldwide, including hitting the 10-top charts in France.

He’s been featured on the soundtrack to several commercials and movies including Hollywood’s Casino Jack featuring Kevin Spacey, Jon Lovitz, Kelly Preston, Rachelle Lefevre, and Barry Pepper.

Having toured every province of Canada, across the USA, Caribbean, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, England, France, Austria, Dubia, Taiwan, and Singapore, Kurt has gained experience in many musical disciplines. He has worked as a musician for Carnival Cruise Lines, the Ceremonial Guard Band in Ottawa, and as a vocal/choral clinician & performer at many international festivals and camps around the world including Taipei International Choral Festival in Taiwan, Polyfollia International Choir Festival in France, Toronto Jazz Festival main stage, and ChoirFest Middle East in Dubai.

With over a decade of teaching experience, including music performance courses at McGill University and the University of Toronto, Kurt is proud to be a part of the Canada Music Academy team.

There are endless topics that students may want to explore, and Kurt has the knowledge to engage and educate students at any level. Whether students are learning the C major scale for the first time or would like to know how to ‘make it’ in the music business.
